Amanda
Thompson
Amanda is a multidisciplinary artist with a strong foundation in traditional drawing. Curiosity is at the heart of her practice. She enjoys exploring materials, experimenting with what they can do, and allowing the process of making to shape the work.
Her practice moves between psychological realism and surrealism, exploring the different sides of lived experience. She uses art as a way of expressing, processing and understanding emotions and feelings that arise throughout her life. Her sketchbooks have always been an important way of managing and making sense of her experiences.
Getting sober gave Amanda the opportunity to let go of things that were no longer working for her and created the space to become the artist she is today. Her work reflects this ongoing process of healing, change and moving forward, while also making space for celebration, grief, humour and everything in between.
As she enters a new seven-year cycle, her practice will continue to grow and evolve alongside her understanding of who she is now. Post-menopause marks another significant threshold in her life, bringing with it a new perspective on identity, change and becoming.
Her work is a record of that ongoing journey: what is left behind, what remains, and what might emerge next.
